Call Me, 2016

[Cell phone ringing]

[phone chatter]

- Hey Giorgio, Andrea at the phone…

[phone chatter]

- Hi!

[phone chatter]

- I’m fine, thank you And you? How are you doing?

[phone chatter]

- It’s so nice to hear from you!

[phone chatter]

- Feels like it has been ages since the last time we spoke, isn’t it?!

[phone chatter]

- I know, it's totally my fault…

[phone chatter]

- Yeah, and it’s also… I mean considering my bad luck with mobile phones…which sounds like a very bad excuse, but it’s not, I swear to you…

[phone chatter]

- Yeah, no, that was my previous mobile, the one that I left in the subway, a few days before we first met. At that point I had already bought a new one…

[phone chatter]

- it was a second-hand one, the cheapest I had found, and indeed it got broken after only two days!

[phone chatter]

- yes, I’m talking about that phone now, the one we buried in the cornfield, reenacting my dream…

[phone chatter]

- Hmm, I still feel guilty too, I mean it is crazy that we couldn’t find it anymore…

[phone chatter]

- Of course, nowadays the negative consequences for the environment can’t be ignored anymore, we had to unearth it!

[phone chatter]

- Do you think we just failed to locate the right spot or…?

[phone chatter]

- No, I was just wondering if it’s possible that someone found it before us, It’s quite unlikely though, it’s just my bad consciousness talking…

[phone chatter]

- I just hope I won’t loose or brake the phone I have now, it is a present that has been given to me…anyway, it’s not unlikely, considering I have lost so many phones recently! I cannot recall the single episodes anymore, they are all mixed up in my mind, it’s a bit disconcerting…

[phone chatter]

- A friend of mine recently told me: what's your problem with your phones? And…I couldn't answer. I just smiled, quite embarrassed…

[phone chatter]

- Actually, I do remember one of them, because It’s a rather peculiar story…it was the very first smart phone I had (and of course, as you know I’ve never been very much up-to-date with technology, and I also take a certain amount of pleasure in being a bit unfashionable). Again, this time too, I had purchased one of the cheapest I could find, but it was brand new this phone! After a couple of weeks something went wrong. It couldn't read the sim card anymore!

[phone chatter]

- Yes, at the beginning it happened sporadically, than it became a chronic issue. At the shop they told me I had to send it back to the company service centre in order to have it repaired for free, as they couldn’t repair it there.

[phone chatter]

- Yes, so I sent the phone to the company, where they said they replaced a component and run a test before sending it back to me. Status “repaired” they said, but of course the phone was not fixed at all, no signal available, same problem as before…

[phone chatter]

- Yes, and it travelled back and forth…for nothing!…at the company's expenses! I mean, I guess it came back with this funny story…

[phone chatter]

- Yes, I still have it, I didn’t want to get rid of it, I mean, it’s not fancy at all but, beside calling and sending text messages, everything else seems to work perfectly…

[phone chatter]

- …yes, we should definitely use it for something…

[phone chatter]

- yes, this is brilliant! let’s do it! The next time we see each other!

[phone chatter]

- Sounds like a plan! So nice! I’m super excited about it…

[phone chatter]

- Ok Giorgio, well, I really have to go now, I’m gonna be late picking up my daughter, but we talk again about it! Soon! Ok?

[phone chatter]

- Yes, kisses to your family!

[phone chatter]

- Thanks, you too! See you soon!

[phone chatter]

- Ciao, ciao!

[phone chatter]

- Ciao!

[phone chatter]

- Cia cia cia…

[phone chatter stops]
